Nano Structured Lipid Carrier: A New Approach in Drug Delivery

Authors: Gopa Roy Biswas*

ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology has gained tremendous popularity over the years due to therapeutic efficacy, particularly for targeted drug therapy. Nanocarriers have achieved a forefront with several effective applications in drug delivery domain. Among them Nanostructure lipid carriers have achieved importance. Nanostructured lipid Carriers or NLCs are novel pharmaceutical formulations that are mainly composed of physiological and biocompatible lipids, surfactants, or co-surfactants. NLC are combined with solid lipid and liquid lipid, and with the aid of a surfactant and are stabilized in aqueous dispersion. In some cases, these NLC s are incorporated in gel to deliver it. They are solid at room/body temperature even when liquid lipid is present. and maintain their solid state by controlling the amount of liquid lipid in the mixture. It has greater acceptance in topical administration dermal and transdermal administration. Other than those, they have application in different drug delivery like oral, brain targeted, pulmonary and in food, cosmetics field as well. Thus, it can be stated that NLC is an effective way for upgrading the proper delivery of many drugs.
